Personal Records and High Scores #1

Hey all! I’ve been meaning to write this new segment for a bit. This is a companion to my game journal series. Here, I’ll make note of personal game records and high scores. It will mostly include screenshots of highscores, records, best times, and other miscellaneous stats revolving around my game experiences. These won’t always be recent, or even my personal best, as some are screenshots taken from the Switch or Switch 2 versions of old games that might have better records that I still have access to. Here are the games I have records from for this first article:

  • Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
  • WarioWare, inc.: Mega Microgame$
  • Pokémon Champions

So, let’s get started with some of my records!

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Here’s the fastest time I have in clearing the Lagdou ruins in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, via the Game Boy Advance Nintendo classics app on the switch. I’ve done this a few times off the blog, and my latest time is 11 seconds faster than the previous best record. Of note, I’ve cleared all 10 floors with just one character. This character is the hardest to unlock, (requiring safely navigating the Lagdou Ruins 3 times) and I managed to max out his stats before completing this challenge.

Of note, I’ve got a better time on the original Game boy advance cartridge, but I cannot take a clean screenshot of that. If I’m not mistaken, that time was below an hour. Admittedly, these recent attempts are slowed down by gathering enough treasure to buy stat boosters for the rest of the characters. It will take a clean attempt after they are fully powered to get much better times.

WarioWare, inc.: Mega Microgame$

Okay, here’s another game boy advance classic. There’s a minigame in the original Warioware game called Pyoro, also known as birds and beans in some releases. In this highly addictive game, I managed to get a higher score than on the original Game Boy Advance cartridge (again, apologies but you’ll have to take my word for it). Warioware games are rife with highscore possibilities, and I haven’t unlocked the easier, but perhaps more fun Pyoro 2 on the switch version. That’s something to look forward to for sure.

Pokémon Champions

Okay, there’s a few ranking based records in this game on my end. Let me show you how I did in certain competitions in each season so far:

Here’s my placement in the Warm-Up Challenge in Pokémon Champions. I’m not sure how many players there were, and while my Elo rating didn’t get particularly high, but I’m glad I got in the top 15,000. Especially with a team I just threw together at the start of the game. The set up could be better, but I’m not too upset.

In the next competition, I didn’t do particularly well, although my rating was still above the starting point. Of note, I had a similar Elo rating as the last event, but my guess is that there were a lot more players in this one, if my placement is any indicator.

Now if we look at my placement in the first season in Pokémon Champions, I used the same team as the Global Challenge, and did way better. Of course, I had more time, for starters. I also don’t think my Elo score had ever been this high in any Pokémon game. Of note, I just missed out on Master Ball tier rank 3, which might be the top 55,000 (correct me in the comments, if you know). Again there should have been a lot of players, so this is still pretty good for someone who slowed down on going to tournaments.

And here are my results from season 2. I used a weird team that was partially defensive, partially fast, and could use both a tailwind and trick room option. You’ll notice that my Elo rating is lower, but my placement is higher. I’m even in Masterball tier, rank 3 (which is based on placement, not Elo ranking, as champion rank is top 300 players). I suspect that there are noticeably fewer players in this season. Additionally, I had less time, due to being sick for a week and a half in this time period. In all, I’m satisfied with the results here. Stay tuned for season 3’s results, assuming I make it to Masterball tier again.

And that wraps up my first records and high score post. Are there any games you want me to include in a future post? Keep in mind, I will only use Switch 1 and Switch 2 games, as screenshots are easier to access from this hardware. I’ll be sure to dig through my collection and see what games might be good candidates for these segments. Stay tuned!

  1. Hey thanks! Admittedly, I only speedran a particular part of the game, which was the harder of the game’s two dungeons. While my posts are less frequent, you should see more like this based on what I pull off, high score wise, or that I manage to find in my game files.
