A Look at The 2018 Pokemon NAIC

Day 3

VGC has three age divisions, Juniors, Seniors, and Masters I will showcase each finals match shown on day 3:

In the Juniors finals we have Justin Miranda-Radbord vs. Connor Yuen.

Justin Miranda-Radbord: Porygon2, Incineroar, Manetric, Celesteela, Tapu Fini, and Snorlax.

Connor Yuen: Sceptile, Kommo-o, Primarina, Incineroar, Mawile, and Thundurus (Therian forme).

Justin Miranda-Radbord won 2-1.

The Seniors finals were between Enzo Reci and Alfredo Chang-Gonzalez.

Enzo Reci: Nihilego, Charizard (as Mega Charizard Y), Pheromosa, Tapu Lele, Smeargle, and Kartana.

Alfredo Chang-Gonzalez: Tapu Koko, Cresselia, Metagross, Incineroar, Landorus (Therian forme) and Gastrodon.

Alfredo Chang-Gonzalez won 2-0.

And Finally, the Masters division was between Justin Burns and Jeremy Rodrigues.

Justin Burns: Metagross, Tapu Fini, Landorus (Therian forme), Zapdos, Incineroar, and Amoongus.

Jeremy Rodrigues: Drifblim, Tapu Lele, Metagross, Amoongus, Landorus (Therian forme), Rotom (Heat forme).

Jeremy Rodrigues won 2-0.

And that was the VGC 2018 North American International Championship. I wanted to take a pulse of the VGC games to get an idea of whether the game is balanced. I was mostly looking to see if there was enough variety, and while we saw a lot of Landorus, Incineroar, Kartana, Charizard, Metagross, Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, and Amoongus, it looks like there was enough wiggle room for some interesting supporting cast, as no team (shown on stream) featured 6 of these 9 Pokemon. This gives me some hope for worlds in August in Nashville, Tennessee. With any luck, the winner there will surprise us all!

And that was my report on the latest VGC event. So, did you view this event? What do you think of the Pokemon that were featured here? What season was your favorite? Did I make any errors in teams or player names? Let me know all this and why in the comments below!
