This past weekend, from Friday August 24, through Sunday August 26, was the 2018 Pokemon world championships. They took place in Nashville, Tennessee, and featured a total prize pool of $500,000 split between 3 different games and 3 different age divisions per game (with only 2 age divisions for Pokken tournament). Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was played for the Video Game Championship (or VGC for short), in addition to the trading card game and Pokken Tournament DX.
I will be reporting on the players and the teams they used. Since I was viewing the on Pokemon’s twitch streams, I could not get the exact sets per Pokemon. Things like move sets, stats, held items, and natures could not be confirmed, and will not be mentioned here. I will be covering the Video Game Championship only, and most of the coverage is for the Master’s age division.

It is important to note that the format for this tournament was Swiss, meaning that all players had to play a set number of rounds, win or lose. Additionally, each match is a best 2 out of 3 games. Those who lost fewer than 3 matches were able to move onto day 2, and those on day 2 who had lost fewer than 3 matches moved onto top cut of 16 players, which turns into the single elimination format. Some players also qualified for day 2 and did not have to play in day 1.
